About Us

Our business is built on 30 years of experience. We are proud of our heritage and proud to have supported the nursery sector for over 20 years.

Our history

In 1988 Allan Pound was an insurance broker at Lloyd’s of London and Ivan Gates was a freight forwarding agent in Felixstowe.

Based on a long-standing business friendship they decided to start a new business together, Pound Gates Group, based in Ipswich. The Group included Pound Gates & Co Ltd, an insurance broker who went on to develop a specialism in the day care nursery sector in 1995, working in close partnership with a local nursery chain and a major insurer.

Kevin Collins took over Pound Gates in 2002, and has led the business through a period of significant growth based on a strong focus on its specialisms.

In 2010 the Group de-merged creating independence for each business supporting further focus and investment in their activity and client sectors.

Today

Today, as well as being a nationally recognised specialist in the nursery insurance sector, Pound Gates is a prominent commercial and corporate broker serving London and the East of England. We also specialise in the areas of Removals and Storage insurance, Self-Storage insurance, Media insurance and Tank Container insurance.

Doing Good

We balance the desire for business success with the needs of the wider communities in which we are active and upon which we have an impact. By combining the resources of the businesses throughout the UK and Europe we have over 100 staff in multiple locations “doing good” in their communities.

Our charity

In 2015, The Pound Gates Group of companies established The Soma Leo Foundation, a small charity that provides education and support to disadvantaged communities in east Africa. We currently do this through our own school, The Soma Leo Academy, in Nyiera, Kenya and by supporting other schools in nearby Osieko. Click here to visit the dedicated Soma Leo site.
